This course is ideal for anyone looking to build a strong foundation in VHF/UHF communication, radio programming, antenna setup, and intelligence gathering across multiple channels. Be prepared to work hard and immerse yourself in a full day of learning.

The 6 hour class is just the beginning of our comms development journey. Included with this training will be 6 organized and scheduled monthly exercises to put into practice and refine what we have learned. The goal will be to build a foundation and prepare for MOD 2 of our comms training: “Tac Comms” (to be scheduled in the 2nd half of 2025). Completing both modules of training and the organized exercises will allow you to successfully create and implement a proper strategy for whatever scenario or situation you feel inclined to plan for.

Instructor Bio:

Joe Bivens is an emergency communication specialist and preparedness advisor dedicated to empowering individuals, families, and teams to face any situation with confidence. As the owner of Unpaved Expeditions, Joe brings years of active experience as a radio operator, working alongside local law enforcement, emergency management teams, HAZMAT, and Search and Rescue (SAR) teams. His expertise includes developing tailored PACE (Primary, Alternate, Contingency, Emergency) plans and comprehensive communication strategies for clients ranging from high-profile musicians to professional athletes and coaches.

Known for his hands-on approach, Joe’s instruction combines practical skills in emergency communication with advanced wilderness survival training. He has honed his skills alongside professional marksmen, SAR experts, and some of the most rigorous survival instructors, ensuring his methods are both effective and resilient. An avid outdoorsman, Joe integrates his passion for hunting, fishing, rucking, and wilderness camping into his training, guiding others in the essentials of survival, preparation, and outdoor self-reliance.
